Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Diane Carol Hoffman, age 83, formerly of Kewaunee, Wisconsin. Diane was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Diane passed away peacefully at Ecumen Seasons at Apple Valley Senior Living Center, where she had recently moved to be closer to Kim and family. She was born on March 30, 1943, in Montpelier to the late Rahlen and Elfrieda (Raduenz) Gruetzmacher.

Diane graduated from Luxemburg High School in 1961. On August 11, 1962, she married Larry Hoffman at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Montpelier.

Diane and Larry owned and operated a dairy farm in Kewaunee County. Diane was actively involved in every aspect of farm life, from milking and caring for the animals to operating large equipment. She also skillfully managed the business and financial affairs of the corporate farm structure.

Diane also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. After retirement, Diane and Larry enjoyed many years of travel, including tours of Alaska and Europe, visits to many places throughout the continental U.S., and numerous trips to Minnesota and California to visit family.

Diane was a loving wife to her husband, Larry, for 61 years and a devoted mother to their children, Alan and Kim. She was also a proud grandmother to four grandchildren, who will always remember the fun times they had on the farm and her delicious cooking. Some of her grandchildren’s happiest memories were made in her kitchen at Christmastime, decorating cookies by the dozens and helping make her famous homemade candy. Those simple, joy filled moments became treasured family traditions that will live on as a reflection of her love. Family was always at the center of Diane’s life. She took immense pride in watching her children and grandchildren grow and succeed and always helped them generously in many ways.

Survivors include her two children, Alan (Marites) Hoffman of El Dorado Hills, CA, and Kim (Kevin) McMahon of Apple Valley, MN; four grandchildren, Mike McMahon of Huntsville, AL, Nicole McMahon of St. Louis Park, MN, Taylor McMahon of Minneapolis, MN, and Alyana Hoffman of El Dorado Hills, CA; her sister, Jean (Ken) Baeten; and her sisters-in-law, Arlene Gruetzmacher and Bonnie (Charles) Balleine. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Hoffman; her parents, Rahlen and Elfrieda Gruetzmacher; her four brothers, Roger, Wayne, Ronald, and Glenn Gruetzmacher; and Larry’s parents, Ortwin and Lillian Hoffman.

Visitation will take place at Kinnard Funeral & Cremation Services – Kewaunee from 8:30 a.m.to 11:30 a.m. on October 12, 2026. The funeral service will follow at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, in the Town of Carlton, beginning at 12:00 Noon, with Pastor Heffner officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Kinnard Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences can be shared at KinnardFCS.com.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff at Allina Hospice Care for their compassion and support during this time.

Diane will be remembered as a sweet, loving, selfless person who always put others before herself.
