Emma Graves Englebert (Mrs. Fabian) , 98, passed away at Bishop's Court on January 26, 2013. Emma was born on July 23, 1914 to Florian and Alice (DeGrave) Graves. Mrs. Florian Graves, Alice, died at the age of 25. Emma, age 4, went to live with her aunt and uncle, Peter and Mary (DeGrave) Moens. Peter and Mary Moens had one child; a daughter Mina, born eight months after Emma came to stay. Emma Graves was never adopted, but was called Emma Moens at times. Emma had one younger brother, Joe Graves, and later in life two half-brothers; Richard and Norbert Graves.
Emma attended St. Sauveur School in Kewaunee County for 8 years.
Emma married Fabian Englebert in Lincoln on November 22, 1934. They enjoyed almost 77 years together. Fabian died on July 14, 2011; 3 months before his 100th birthday.
Emma helped with farm work for about 5 years before moving to Green Bay. Emma did washing, ironing, and other housework for Mr. & Mrs. Connors and then their daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Dorschel for 40 years. Emma retired at the age of 74.
Emma enjoyed keeping her house and clothes spotless. She enjoyed baking bread from scratch, canning fruits and vegetables, growing African Violets, visiting with relatives and friends, sewing and mending, fishing along with Fabian, and collecting and filing obituaries and articles from the Green Bay Press Gazette to use as references. Emma was well known for brewing and serving her special coffee; Butternut.
Emma is survived by nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be on FRIDAY, February 1, 2013 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum, Bay Settlement. Entombment will follow at 11:15 a.m. Wiesner & Massart Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences may be shared at here .
