Eric Wians

Eric Wians, 86, Algoma, died peacefully October 6, 2011 of Multiple Myeloma at Kewaunee Care Center with his wife and family by his side. He was born May 19, 1925 in Chicago to the late Rev. E.A. and Frieda (Westphal) Wians.

In Chicago on October 20, 1951 Eric married Joyce Sibilsky. Eric graduated from Gillett High School in 1942 and entered the U.S. Navy on October 4, 1943 until May 13, 1946 aboard the USS Maury DD-401 as a WT3c in the Pacific Theater. He attended many ship reunions, the last one in 2004 with his 2 sons in Fredricksburg, Texas.

Eric was also a Green Bay Packer season ticket holder since 1959, was an excellent sheepshead player and also loved to travel. Eric worked for the Chicago Transit Authority, Pauly Cheese in Green Bay, Milton Bouche Trucking in Algoma, Jag Signs in Algoma and John Haegle, where he painted many of the local churches. Eric ended his working career as a foreman at the Algoma Hardwoods.

Eric belonged to St. John's EV Lutheran Church, Rankin where he was treasurer and trustee for many years. He was also Sunday School Superintendent and a member of St. John's Choir. He was a member of Algoma Fire and Recue, VFW and TinCan Sailors.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; 2 sons, Wayne (Lynn) Wians, Green Bay, David (Nydia) Wians, Green Bay; 4 grandchildren, Erik, Isaac, Casey, Ashlee; 5 great grandchildren, Brody, Caleb, Emma, Ryan, Jaidyn; brothers, sister, sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Mel (Janice) Wians, Kaukauna, Gloria Qualman, Algoma, Duane (Sigrid) Wians, Green Bay, Alice (Gene) Krautkramer, Kaukauna, Caroline Wians, Tigerton; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Wilbert, Lowell and Edward; one great granddaughter, Morgan.

Friends may call at Wiesner-Massart Funeral Home, Algoma on Friday October 7th from 4 to 8pm. Military Service 6pm Friday and Wake Service 7:45pm. Visitation will continue at church Saturday from 9 to 10:30am. Funeral Service 10:30am Saturday at St. John's EV Lutheran Church, Rankin with Pastor John Neugebauer officiating. Burial in St. John's Cemetery with full military rites.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church, Rankin and Algoma Fire and Rescue Memorial.
