Ernie J. Hanmann

Ernest J. Hanmann went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 13, 2012. Ernie was born on May 20, 1921 to the late Herman and Amelia (Jahnke) Hanmann Sr. in the Town of Luxemburg. He was the youngest of twelve children. He was baptized on June 21, 1921 at Grace Lutheran Church in Green Bay, and he was confirmed in May 1933 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Luxemburg. Ernie currently was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Rankin. His family moved from the farm in the Town of Luxemburg to the Village of Casco when he was five years old. He graduated from Casco High School in 1940. On October 30, 1943 he married Violet Mae Gilson at St. John's Lutheran Church in Luxemburg. Ernie worked at Evangeline Milk Co., Hanmann Milling, was a bus driver for Casco School District, a custodian for Casco High School, and a custodian for Luxemburg-Casco Junior High School until he retired in 1986 after 31 years of service. He played drums with the Luxemburg-Casco Community Band for over ten years. He was a devoted sports fan of the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans, Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, and Duke University. He enjoyed craft work and helping others whenever he had the chance.

He is survived by his wife Violet of 68 years, one daughter Judy Jadin, one son David (Bonnie) Hanmann Sr.; four grandchildren Tim (Shelly Nelsen) Jadin, Christopher Jadin, Heidi (Jari) Honkonen, Davey (friend Tammy) Hanmann Jr.; two great-granddaughters Ashley Jadin (special friend Jordan Salentine), Jennifer Jadin. He is further survived by sisters-in-law Joyce Hanmann and Joyce Gilson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Edmund and Edith Selissen; as well as many nieces, nephews, and wonderful good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, and mother-in-law Eli and Lillian Gilson; six brothers and five sisters-in-law Rudolph (Milda) Hanamann Sr., Edward (Erna) Hanamann, Carl (Mary) Hanamann Sr., Walter (Ella) Hanmann Sr., Herman (Irene) Hanamann Jr., and Garfield Hanmann; five sisters and brothers-in-law Alma (Walter) Siegmund Sr., Mildred (Bernard) Moede, Clara (Arden) Besserdich, Emily (Frederich) Moede, Violet (Elmer) Breitlow; as well as brothers-in-law Gerald, Howard, and Richard Gilson, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dave and Ethel Martin.

Family and friends may gather at St. John's Lutheran Church in Rankin on Sunday September 16, 2012 from 1 to 3 P.M. Funeral service will follow at 3:15 P.M. Burial will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery on Rockledge Road. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Wiesner and Massart Funeral Home, Casco.
