Gene Burmeister, age 68 of Kewaunee died peacefully on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at home with his children by his side after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born on December 9, 1953 in Kewaunee to the late Harlan and Frances (Opicka) Burmeister.
Gene graduated from Kewaunee High School with the class of 1972. He married Sharron Matthews on May 16, 1987 in Kewaunee and she preceded him in death on May 28, 2014.
Gene retired from Blaha Body Shop after working there for over twenty years. He was the founder and president of the Kruisers Car Club, was a member of the Lakeshore Vintage Snowmobile Association. His passions for the things he loved were apparent to all who knew him, whether it be restoring cars, building model cars, collecting antique toys, engines and go kart racing with his son.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law: Jessie and Erin Burmeister, Kewaunee; one daughter and son-in-law: Gena and Ken Vlies, Kewaunee; a step-daughter: Kelly Bagneski, Green Bay; two step-sons, Jesse (Wendy) Robinson, Green Bay; Daniel (Jamie) Robinson, Maribel; twelve grandchildren; two great grandchildren; five sisters: Bonnie Kinjerski; Betsy Burmeister; Kathy (Mike) Paral; Alice (Bruce) VanLanen; Mary (Mark) Murphy; one brother: Alan Burmeister; the mother of his children: Melinda Thor and his beloved cat, Spooky.
A small memorial service with be held on Saturday April 2nd at Lakehaven from 1:00-5:00 with a prayer service at 3:00 pm. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
The family would like to give special thanks to Mary Nuhlicek for the weekly meals that she delivered and Unity Hospice nurse, Leah, chaplain, Karen and CNA Crystal for the passionate care that they gave Gene.
