Helen M. (Propsom) Schmitt

January 19, 1924 — December 12, 2014

Helen M. Schmitt, 90 years old of Casco, peacefully passed away Friday December 12, 2014 with her family at her side. She was born January 19, 1924 to the late Matthew and Viola (Lauscher) Propsom. As a young woman, Helen was the personal secretary for the owner of Leatham Smith Ship Yard during World War II. She married Charles Schmitt Sr. on May 7, 1949 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sturgeon Bay, WI. He preceded her in death on December 28, 2007. Helen enjoyed spending time with her family, doing crosswords, playing bridge, and sheepshead. She also enjoyed bowling and watching sports.

She is survived by her children: Chuck (Katie) Schmitt Jr., Casco; Becky (Mickey) Grasso, Green Bay; Susan (Travis) Gee, Kewaunee; Debby (Joe) Nero, Illinois; Paul (Patti) Schmitt, Sturgeon Bay; Carla (Terry) Stebor, Green Bay; grandchildren Austin (Laura), Ross (Kayla), Ashley, Jamie (Greg), Daanen (Alisha), Florence, Kendra (Matt), Heather, Preston, Lily, Nate, Ben, Joey, Ryan, Robbie, Steven and Toni; great-grandchildren Aiden, Ava, Bentley, Liam, Tommy, Foster, and Nina. Helen is further survived by one sister-in-law Margie Schmitt, Green Bay; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, 1 son Danny, 5 sisters, and 1 brother.

Visitation will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Tuesday December 16, 2014 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 with Fr. Milton Suess officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wiesner & Massart is assisting the family. Online condolence messages may be shared here .
