Jacqueline (Jackie) M. (Schleis) Yon

December 15, 1946 — May 15, 2022

Jacqueline “Jackie” Yon, age 75 of Kewaunee passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family.  She was born on December 15, 1946 in Kewaunee to the former Elizabeth Leo and the late Joseph E. Schleis.

On April 1, 1967 she married Phillip Yon at Holy Rosary Church in Kewaunee.

Jackie graduated from Kewaunee High School in 1965 and earned her B.S. in elementary education from U.W. O.  Later she earned her Masters of Education in reading from U.W.O. She received her administrative certificate from U.W.-Milwaukee.  She started her teaching career with the Luxemburg-Casco School District for twenty-one years. Jackie taught in the Kewaunee School District for seventeen years as Middle School reading teacher and later as elementary school principal.

She was an avid reader and shared her love for books.  She was a lifelong learner and sought out educational endeavors such as history, geneology and health.  She enjoyed traveling the world.  She was a lady of varied interests.

Jackie was an active community volunteer.  She was involved with Build the Future, Literacy Partners, of Kewaunee City, H.C.E. Friends of the Library and City of Kewaunee Library Board.  She was recognized for her accomplishments by Build the Future as a Wall of Fame Honoree.

She possessed an unforgettable spirit, a warm smile, wit and an ability to put those around her at ease.  Will always be remembered.  She loved life.

Survivors include her husband, Phillip, her mother: Elizabeth Schleis MacSwain, her sister Sandra Schleis-Ulmen, her brothers, Patrick and Joe (Sue) Schleis, her nieces and nephews, Karissa Ulmen, Alex Ulmen, Kaitlyn Schleis and Ryan Schleis.

Jackie requested private memorial services for family only.
