LaVela “Velly” Amelia Deprez, Algoma, passed away on May 14, 2025, at Odd Fellows in Green Bay. Born on September 24, 1940, in Rio Creek, Wisconsin, to the late Bernard and Mildred (Hanmann) Moede. Velly entered the world as a twin, alongside her beloved sister LaVera, who sadly passed away shortly after their birth on October 16, 1940.
On August 7, 1976, she married her soulmate, Darrell “Hoogie” Deprez, at St. Mary’s Church in Algoma. They shared many joyful years together until Darrell’s passing on November 11, 2013.
She went to Casco High School, graduating in May of 1958. A proud Casco Comet she was, later she dedicated herself to her work at Plumbers Woodwork (now Olsonite), where she worked from April 24, 1963, until her retirement.
A true social butterfly, Velly had an incredible knack for connecting with people. Whether it was through her love for sending handwritten cards or her warm phone calls, she made lasting friendships wherever she went. Her nurturing side shone through as she taught Sunday School, sharing her love of Christ and wisdom with the younger generation.
She is survived by her favorite only daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Guy McCauley; and two grandchildren, grandson Maximus Darrell and granddaughter Grace Amelia, the love of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell; her parents, Bernard and Mildred Moede; her twin sister LaVera; her father- and mother-in-law, Irvin and Catherine Deprez; and her sister-in-law Darlene, who was her husband Darrell’s twin sister.
Visitation will take place at St. John Lutheran Church in Rankin on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 am with the funeral service taking place at 11:00 am with Dr. Rev. Christopher Jackson officiating. Entombment to follow at the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum in Green Bay.
Special thanks to the staff at Odd Fellow Home and Unity Hospice for the compassionate care given to Velly. She will be dearly missed, but her love and spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
