Lawrence (Larry) Verdegan, age 97, of Kewaunee passed away peacefully on Monday, August 6, 2018 with his children by his side. He was a resident of Kewaunee all of his life. In the past four and a half years he resided at Paradise Estates. He was born on July 23, 1921 to the late Charles and Gertrude (Crabb) Verdegan.
Larry graduated from Kewaunee High School with the class of 1940. He served in the U. S. Navy as a medic during WWII. Upon his return he worked at Leyse Aluminum Co. Until his retirement.
He married Millie Kotyza on February 4, 1945 and she preceded him in death on May 18, 1998.
He was a lifelong and active member of Holy Rosary Parish spending many hours building whatever was needed there, was a member of V.F.W. and American Legion Post 29 of Kewaunee, Kewaunee Hunting and Fishing Club. He was the cole slaw maker for the annual trout boils of the club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, camping, wood working and most of all being with his children and family. Larry and Millie enjoyed spending winters in Florida. He had many friends he enjoyed spending time with.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law: Carol Rohr, DePere; Joyce and Tom Uhlers, Kewaunee; Nancy and Vic Blaha, Two Creeks; nine grandchildren: Lori (Tim) Laes, Green Bay; Jeff (Emily) Rohr, DePere; Kevin (Susan) Uhlers, Kewaunee; Craig (Cindy) Uhlers, Kewaunee; Kristin (Gerry) Laycock, Farmersburg, IN; Stacy (Brent) Pierce, Two Creeks; Stephanie Blaha and Fiancé John Carter, Manitowoc; Adam (Cassy) Blaha, Two Rivers; Tyler (Amanda) Blaha, Denmark; twenty-three great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two brothers: Glenn Verdegan, Fond du Lac; Donald (Mary) Verdegan, Kewaunee; two sisters-in-law: Rose Schaller, Kewaunee; Julie Kotyza, Kewaunee; brother-in-law: Tony (Donna) Kotyza, Kewaunee many nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Herb Mueller and special niece Diane Verdegan. He was preceded in death by one son-in-law: David Rohr; seven brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Friday, August 10 at Holy Rosary Church, Kewaunee until the time of services. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. by Fr. Alvan Amadi. Burial with full military rites will follow in the parish cemetery.
The family would like to give a special thank you to everyone at Paradise Estates for the wonderful and comforting care they gave dad while he was there. We want to thank Art Belter for his help and friendship to dad while at Paradise, we also want to thank Unity Hospice and Marsh Hayes for all of their care and concern for Larry and his family.
