Obituary

Leon G. Nimmer, 79, of Kewaunee passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. He was born on April 3, 1947, in Kewaunee to the late Erhart and Mildred (Pilgrim) Nimmer.

Leon grew up on the family farm where he developed the strong work ethic that defined his life. He graduated from Kewaunee High School in 1965 and continued working on the family farm. On April 26, 1969, he married the love of his life, Diane Daul, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love, hard work, and family.

While farming with his parents, Leon began working at Dworak Motor Company where he started as a mechanic and later ventured into auto body repair as well. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Leon's Auto Body. One of his favorite stories was that the very first vehicle he painted was done entirely by hand with a paintbrush—a testament to his determination and craftsmanship. Over the years, the business expanded to include automobile and truck sales, becoming Leon's Auto Body & Sales, where thousands of vehicles were sold.

Leon also worked at Kewaunee Engineering, spent a brief time at Daul Meats where he worked for his father-in-law, and later dedicated many years to Harv's Electric. He genuinely loved working and rarely sat still, finding fulfillment in every job he took on.

Leon was an active member of the Muskrat City Sportsman’s Club in its early years and proudly served as a president of the Kewaunee Jaycees. When his children were young, he enjoyed attending Catholic Order of Foresters events with his family. Leon treasured time spent with his loved ones: family vacations, holiday gatherings, and cheering on his children and later grandchildren.

Leon was known in his younger years for his cut-off sleeve shirts, his Swisher Sweets cigars, and later spending hours mowing the lawn on his new John Deere zero-turn mower. He loved watching “Polka, Polka,” dancing the waltz with Diane, and singing "You Are My Sunshine.”

Leon is survived by his beloved wife, Diane; his children, Vicky (Todd) Kinjerski and their children, Cassandra (Jared) Ledvina and Rachel (Jason Selner) Kinjerski; Ken (Becky) Nimmer and their children, Parker (Mallory Ellers) Nimmer, Anna Nimmer, and Cooper Nimmer; Steven (Christie) Nimmer and their children, Cayden Nimmer and Grace (Sam Brewton) Nimmer; Connie (Jim) Mrotek and their children, Peyton (Grace Arndt) Mrotek, Danica (Maison Messerschmidt) Mrotek, Alana Mrotek, and Landon Mrotek; his brother-in-law, Gary (Glenda) Daul; sisters-in-law, Judy (Leonard) Charles, Karen (Glenn) Selner, Sharon (Buddy) Davister, and Kathy Daul; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Myra (Dax) Daul; sister, Cheryl Nimmer; brother-in-law, Ronald Daul; niece, Kim Berkovitz; and nephew, Keith Berkovitz.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Luxemburg. A rosary service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Deacon Bob Miller officiating. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with the Very Rev. Daniel Schuster officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family wishes to give a special thank you to the staffs of Fresenius Kidney Care, Rennes Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and St. Vincent Hospital’s ICU and 9th floor for all of their kind and loving care given to Leon when it was so needed.
