Marion (Renard) Rankin

August 24, 1932 — June 27, 2015

Marion Rankin , age 82 of Algoma, went peacefully to heaven in the Lord's arms Saturday, June 27th with her family at her side. She was born August 24th 1932 in Namur, WI to Benjamin Renard and Anna (DeKeyser) Renard. She attended Brussels area schools. On April 18th 1953, she married Harold Rankin at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brussels.

In October of 1953 Marion joined her husband who was in the service in Anchorage, Alaska. Their first child Dana was born there. By the time the rest of the family came along they were back in Algoma, where she lived out the rest of her life.

Marion worked for 17 years as the head cook at the Hotel Stebbins. After that she worked for 15 years at Olsonite until the time of her retirement.

Her favorite pastimes were watching her grandchildren in sporting events, musicals, plays, etc. and playing cards with friends and relatives. She also loved to crochet and made many Turkish towels, wash cloths and afghans for all of the family.

Marion was a member of St. Mary's parish in Algoma. She served as a Eucharistic minister, was a member of the Rosary Society for over 25 years and she also served on the Evangelization committee.

She is survived by her 5 sons and their wives; Dana & Lisa of Forestville, Brian & Debbie and Jayme & Emily of Algoma, Chris & Brenda of Appleton and Shawn & Tammy and Jean Rankin of Algoma. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Jeremy (Ashley), Josh (Elizabeth), Jenny, Danielle (Matt), Nicholas (Betsy), Ben (Whitney), Melissa, Logan (Ashley), Kayla, Madison, Mckenzie and Mason; and 8 great grandchildren: Isaiah, Aiden, Max, Brielle, Olivia, Alma, Eddie and Landon, 2 sisters-in-law; Helen Massart and Ruth Meister, one brother-in-law Gilbert Meister, many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold who passed away August 29, 2001, one grandson Jason, her sister Lillian Rich, sisters-in-law Esther Rankin & Marie Herison, and brother-in-laws Kenneth Rich, Elmond Herison & Roy Massart.

Friends may call at Wiesner & Massart Funeral Home, 1617 Flora Ave, Algoma on Wednesday, July, 1st from 4:00-8:00 pm for visitation with Rosary at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Algoma from 9:30-11:00 am, Thursday, July 2nd. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 with Fr. Jim Massart Officiating. Burial to follow in the church cemetery. Online condolences may be shared here .

Marion will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her and loved her.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the wonderful staff at Algoma Long Term Care that took loving care of our mother and grandmother for the time that she lived there. We would also like to acknowledge our gratitude to the staff of Unity Hospice, who were so helpful in mom's last months.
