The Life of Murray Brown
Murray Brown was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he grew up with quiet strength, curiosity, and a natural gift for all things mechanical and technical. He graduated from Hawk Springs High School in 1955, where he set and held the state record in the 100-yard dash—a symbol of his determination and drive.
Later that year, in August of 1955, he married Lois, the love of his life and lifelong partner. Together, they built a life defined by love, faith, resilience, and shared adventure.
Early in his working years, Murray ran a TV repair shop in Gering, Nebraska, where his hands-on skills and sharp mind made him a respected local problem-solver and trusted technician. His passion for electronics and communications later led him to a long and accomplished career.
Murray spent 35 years at K N Energy as a microwave systems engineer, designing and maintaining communication infrastructure across the region. He was a licensed radio operator, a private pilot, and held a patent for Brocom 174, a lighting system designed for communication towers—one of his proudest technical achievements.
Outside of work, Murray was dedicated to his community. He served as a Cub Scout Scoutmaster and co-founded Go Baseball in Gering, helping young people develop confidence, teamwork, and a love for the game. He had a lifelong passion for fishing, basketball, and baseball, and took great joy in sharing those interests with his children and grandchildren.
He and Lois lived their lives with a spirit of adventure. Among their many journeys, they once floated the Mississippi River all the way to New Orleans, and later traveled the U.S. in their motorhome, even visiting his family’s heritage in Nova Scotia—a deeply meaningful experience.
In April 1996, they retired to Kewaunee, Wisconsin, where Murray enjoyed a peaceful and fulfilling retirement. He continued to tinker, explore, and devote time to the people and activities he loved most.
Murray will be remembered for his brilliance, humility, inventive spirit, and his unwavering devotion to family and community. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the systems he built, and the love he gave so freely.
Murray is survived by his children, Daniel (Kathy) Brown of Kewaunee and Kevin (Oksana) Brown of Mountain; grandchildren, Liza VandenLangenberg (Nathan), Justin Brown (Alyssa), Hannah Loveless (Cody); and Alexander Brown; great-grandchildren, Taylor Brown, Willow VandenLangenberg, Wren VandenLangenberg, Hudson VandenLangenberg; as well as by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois A. Brown; son, Mark A. Brown; parents, John and Theresa (Marie) Brown; brother, Tom J. Hall; and sister, Wilda Vance.
