Roger J. DeVillers, 83, Luxemburg passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2014, after a bravely fought battle with pancreatic cancer.
Roger was born July 31, 1931 in rural Door County to Frank and Mabel (Andre) DeVillers. He graduated from Casco High School in 1949, where he played on the football team and played the drums in the marching band. Roger worked at U.S. Plywood, later known as Algoma Hardwoods, for 44 years, retiring in 1994.
On September 21, 1950, he married his high school sweatheart, Veronica Derenne, at St. Odile Catholic Church in Thiry Daems. Roger and Veronica also farmed in the Thiry Daems area for 28 years. Roger was a skilled carpenter and will be remembered by his children and grandchildren for the furniture items he built for them. Roger enjoyed deer hunting very much and was extremely proud that he had hunted in Wisconsin for 65 consecutive years. He also hunted in Michigan, Wyoming, Montana, and North Dakota. Roger also enjoyed his spring fishing trips with sons, sons-in-law, and grandsons. Roger and Veronica also traveled extensively, visiting many of the states, including Hawaii and Alaska. Their travels also took them to Europe five times.
Roger was survived by his wife Veronica; two sons and five daughters, Lyle (Mary), Rosiere; Larry (Sharon), Luxemburg; Luann LeCloux, Luxemburg; Linda (Quin) Oshefsky, Denmark; Lori (Leon) Mleziva, Luxemburg; Lisa (Mark) Ledvina, Luxemburg; and Lola (Stuart Champeau) DeVillers, Sturgeon Bay. He was also survived by 22 grandchildren; Sarah (Dustin Boyarski) DeVillers, Ann DeVillers, Emily (special friend Andy Marx) DeVillers, Nancy (Jason) Kiehnau, Craig (Shannon) DeVillers, Cindy (Brian) Peot, Renee (Dan) Kucharski, Michele (Troy) Stroessenreuther, Sandra (Adam) LeCloux-Ault, Christin (fiancAC. Chad Gunther) LeCloux, Shaefer (Erin) Oshefsky, Amanda (Phil) Sosnosky, Lucas Oshefsky, Isaac (Kayla) Oshefsky, Ben (Gina) Mleziva, Adam (Amanda) Mleziva, Ryan (Lian) Mleziva, Joshua (Jessica) Ledvina, James (special friend Shana Defnet) Ledvina, Jesse (Ronni) Ledvina, Jamaica Schroedl, and O'Shea Schroedl; and 32 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by two brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law; Robert (Janice) Derenne, Luxemburg; Wayne (Mary Ann) Thiry, Casco; and Doris DeVillers, Green Bay; along with many nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law, Eli and Annie Derenne; brothers, Stanley and Norman; infant sister Marian; sister and brother-in-law Germaine (Sanford) Maccoux; brother-in-law Norbert Derenne; son-in-law Dale LeCloux; and grandson Brent LeCloux.
Visitation will be held at Wiesner and Massart Funeral Home, Casco, on Tuesday August 19, 2014 from 4 to 8 P.M. with Rosary at 7 P.M. Visitation will continue on Wednesday August 20, 2014 from 9:30 to 10:45 A.M. at St. Peter Catholic Church, Lincoln. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 A.M. with Fr. Dennis Drury and Deacon Paul Zenefski officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Online condolence messages may be shared here .
