Ruth June Massart, 84, Algoma, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. Ruth was born on June 7, 1939, in the Town of Clay Banks to the late William and Lily (Nelson) Jirtle. She married Keith Massart on November 4, 1961, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Algoma.
Ruth was a graduate of Lakeview School and Algoma Highschool, class of 1957.
She was employed by Sturgeon Bay Savings & Loan from 1957 to 1964, R.A. Stearn, Inc from 1964 to 1990. She was Clay Banks town treasurer from 1972 to 1993 and town clerk from 1993 to 2005, and was also bookkeeper/treasurer for Holy Name of May Catholic Church in Maplewood from 1991 thru July 2009.
Ruth enjoyed cooking, crocheting, counted cross stitching, playing cards, attending her flowers, and spending time with family and friends. She dearly loved her many cats over her lifetime.
Survivors include her best friend and husband Keith; her step-sister, Darlene (Jack) Adams, and their children Guy (Laura) Adams, and Charlene Johson. Also her in-laws, Larry (Mary) Massart and their children, Londa Peterson and Nick (Amy) Rayome. Larry Schabow and his children Stacie Schabow and Shelly (Paul) Karnz. She is further survived by great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William & Lily Jirtle; a brother James; sister Alice Joan; niece Valerie Adams; in-laws, Jule and Alice Massart; Jean and Dale Krueger, and Joy Schabow.
Private services were held at Kinnard Funeral & Cremation Services – Algoma on Friday, June 16, 2023. Burial took place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Kinnard Funeral & Cremation Services - Algoma is assisting the family. Online condolence messages may be shared at KinnardFCS.com.
