Sherry Kuehl died 10/25/2023 at St. Lukes hospital with loving family surrounding her.
Sherry was born in Kewaunee August 15, 1940, to Earl and Lillian Kuehl. She attended Kewaunee High School and graduated in 1958. She married Lynn Berner in 1959. Lynn and Sherry had 3 children; Debbie, Anne, and Adam. They moved to Kewaunee in 1968 and Sherry was a domestic engineer while Lynn ran Berner Drug Store. When Lynn died in 1977, Sherry worked at Happy’s Supper Club for several years, then started working at Kewaunee High School in the Laundry room. She was married to Jim Verdegan from 1983 to 1990 and married Cole Kuehl in 1994. She worked at Kewaunee County Jail for a number of years. She has worked at several businesses in Kewaunee over the past few years, lastly at Krohn’s Cheese Factory. She ‘retired’ in 2015.
Sherry loved cooking for everyone. She loved doing dinner parties, catered some outside parties, and made sure anyone that came to her house was well fed. She would always be in search of a good recipe. She knew the best ways to preserve fruits and vegetables and loved to help her daughters freeze, can and preserve food. Her next love was reading. She truly felt that reading was so important for everyone to continue to read both fiction and non fiction. She could finish a 600 page book in a day. She would share her books with anyone. She was active on the library board for several years. The Kewaunee Public Library was one of her favorite hangouts. She also loved gardening, her pets, even those forced on her over the years by her daughter, and going on bus trips with friends. She loved going to Ireland, as her good friends Bess and Eileen were from there.
Another favorite of Sherry’s was spending time with her grandchildren. She loved to take them to her cottage, when she owned it. She went to draft horse shows and lived in a crowded camper, making sure her grandchildren were fed and cared for from 2004 to 2018. She spent time in Fond du Lac living in the camper many times between horse shows. She also went on family vacations with the grandchildren from one end of the country to another, from Virginia to California and was able to visit dozens of state and national parks. She loved the beauty, but loved being the head domestic engineer above all things, keeping the crew fed and things neat and clean. Vacations without her were never as fun, nor will they ever be. She was such a colorful addition to these journeys and left her mark in all those people she touched along the way.
Sherry is survived by husband Cole Kuehl, her daughters with Lynn, Debbie (Tom) Skubal and Anne (Joel) Clary, grandchildren Nick (Amanda) Langer, Evan Langer, Garrett Clary, Travis (Erin) Clary, and Wyatt Clary; great grandchildren Titus Langer and Marcella Langer, brother in law John (Karen) Berner, nephew Justin (Jen) Berner, sister in law Kris (Rene) Zimmer, nephews Jeremy Zimmer, Aaron (Tracy )Zimmer and their children Alexandria and Christoph, stepson Matthew Verdegan and some cousins, and many, many friends.
