Veronica J. (Derenne) DeVillers

February 25, 1932 — January 17, 2017

Veronica J. DeVillers , 84, Luxemburg, died Tuesday evening, January 17, 2017.

Veronica was born February 25, 1932, the oldest of four children, in rural Algoma to Eli and Annie (Jandrin) Derenne. She graduated from Casco High School in 1950, where she played clarinet in the marching band.

On September 21, 1950 she married her high school sweetheart, Roger DeVillers, at St. Odile Catholic Church in Thiry Daems. Veronica and Roger farmed in the Thiry Daems area for 28 years while raising 7 children. Veronica and Roger traveled extensively, visiting many of the states, including Hawaii and Alaska. Their travels also took them to Europe five times.

Veronica will be remembered by her children as a very hard working selfless woman who always gave of herself for others. Veronica spent a lot of time sanding, staining, and varnishing the many furniture items Roger and she made for children and grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing and made many clothes for her children and herself. She could take apart an old coat and fashion it into a new coat for one of her children or herself. Her expert sewing and quilting skills were also displayed in the baby quilts she made for grandchildren. Veronica will also be remembered for the family favorite foods she served at get-togethers. She has passed on some of those favorite recipes along with teaching daughters and granddaughters the art of making Belgian pies. Veronica's Catholic faith was very strong, and she treasured her Tuesday visits to the Chapel in Robinsonville with her sister, Mary Ann. She enjoyed doing genealogy and has left her research of DeVillers, Andre, Derenne, and Jandrin family lineage.
