Violet Mae (Gilson) Hanmann, 99, Casco, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, to join her husband Ernie and many other loved ones. Violet was born on February 10, 1924, to Eli and Lillian (Felten) Gilson in Sheboygan, WI. Her family moved back to the Gilson farm in the Town of Red River in 1928. She married Ernest Hanmann on October 30, 1943, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Luxemburg, WI. Having shared over 69 years of marriage together. He preceded her in death on September 13, 2012. She graduated from Algoma High School on June 10, 1942. She found her joy in oil painting and painted over 140 paintings. She played the French Horn in High School and for over 12 years with the Luxemburg-Casco Community Band.

Violet worked at Rayton Manufacturing in Rio Creek, WI for a few years, 1 year at Hamilton Manufacturing in Kewaunee, WI, then joined Ernie as a custodian at Casco High School and also Luxemburg-Casco Junior High School for a total of 27 years, retiring in 1986.

Violet is survived by her two children, daughter, Judy Jadin of Casco, and son David (Bonnie) Hanmann Sr. of Casco; four grandchildren, Timothy (Shelly) Jadin of Luxemburg, Christopher Jadin of Luxemburg, Heidi (Jari) Honkonen of Finland, David (friend Allison) Hanmann Jr of Casco; three great-grandchildren, Ashley (Jordan) Salentine of Luxemburg, Jenni (friend Zach) Jadin of Luxemburg, and Verna Violet Honkonen of Finland; one sister, Edie (Ed) Selissen of Green Bay; as well as by many nieces, nephews, and wonderful good friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie; her parents, Eli and Lillian Gilson, her father- and mother-in-law, Herman and Amelia Hanmann Sr.; three brothers, Gerald (Joyce) Gilson, Howard Gilson, and Richard Gilson; one sister, Ethel (Dave) Martin; six brothers-and sisters-in-law, and five sisters- and brothers-in-law on Ernie’s side of the family.

Family and friends may gather at Country Bible Church on Hwy 54 between Casco and Luxemburg on Monday, January 22, 2024, from 9:00-10:45 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am with Bob Steiner officiating. Burial will take place at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery on Rockledge Rd. in Luxemburg. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Kinnard Funeral & Cremation Services – Casco.
