Robert (Rob) E. Prudhomme , 56, of Algoma, Wisconsin, passed away on February 25, 2022, after a lengthy battle with liver disease. He was born on March 5, 1965, in Green Bay, to the late Ron and Pat (Pettey) Prudhomme. He graduated from Algoma High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the US Army. Through the remainder of his life, he worked as a Heavy Machinery Operator mostly working with Asphalt.

On May 7, 2015, Rob and Mary Jo were married.  Their relationship started out in 2011 by Rob reaching out to an old friend, like he had done with many of us.  Mary Jo helped Rob to find our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as a guide for Rob to get him through his most troubling times.  They fell in love and decided to get married.

During their 6 ½ years together the two of them enjoyed many adventures.  They did a lot of traveling in their RV, enjoyed boating and fishing, raised some beautiful horses together which is something that Rob had always dreamed of and enjoyed their dogs and cats.  Having the animals was very therapeutic for Rob.  His service dog Brodie was by his side always and he loved him tremendously.

As Rob’s health continued to get worse, Mary Jo, who is a registered nurse, was there to help him with all her ability.  All of us who are friends of Rob owe her a debt of gratitude for her love and efforts to try to help him get his health back on track.

Some of Rob’s most treasured memories were back in high school where he worked extremely hard to be a highly successful athlete.  All of those who were teammates of Rob witnessed the intense competitor that he was.  Toughness was a quality that he had, and he brought it out of the players around him through his leadership.

In his senior year of football, Rob saved his best performance for the most important game of the season.  In the conference championship game, during a season in which we had dedicated our efforts to three men who had lost their lives too early that previous spring, Rob was motivated to do his best to honor one of those, Gaylord Mauer, former coach, mentor, and a man that Rob had tremendous love and respect for.  Rob rushed for 224 yards and three touchdowns in a 36-0 rout of Mishicot.  A moment in his life that he often looked back on as one of those uplifting experiences that can bring you back from the low times to a feeling of euphoria and immense pleasure.

Baseball was Rob’s best sport.  As a young boy, he always had a catcher’s mitt with him when he went to Perry Field in Algoma in case a pickup game broke out.  Which back in the day, happened very frequently.  He started at catcher on varsity for three years in high school and was easily one of the absolute best catchers to ever play at Algoma.  His ability to throw runners out, direct the defense, call pitches and his power at the plate earned him many accolades.  Many believe he could have played at some level of professional ball.

In 1983, Algoma reached the pinnacle of high school baseball as Rob led his teammates to the only Boys State Baseball Championship in Algoma history.  While this moment means a lot to all of those who played on that team or coached, it meant just a little more to Rob.  A treasure that he held deep in his heart until the day he passed.

Rob spoke many, many times about his mother and father who have passed before him.  He loved them with all his heart and missed them terribly.  We talked about how he would be reunited with them in Heaven.  With Mary Jo having helped Rob find his faith in Jesus, Rob is in heaven with his parents at Jesus’ side.  Rest in Peace my friend.  You’ve earned it.

Rob is survived by his wife Mary Jo; children, Josh, LaCygne, and Zach; brother Ron (Karen) Prudhomme, sisters, Gina Prudhomme, Rose (Bob) McGinnis; mother-in-law, Donna Mullaly; father-in-law, Paul Mullaly; cousin, Jeff Van Eyck; niece, Sheila (Nathan) Wolf; nephew, Jeremy (Regan) Prudhomme; great-niece, Alex Jacobs-Griese; as well as many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Ron and Pat Prudhomme and 2 infant sisters.
